It is a long run but a simple one: the A12 all the way down to the North Circular, then a short section north.
Gallows Corner and the Brentwood stretch are the two places the A12 backs up. Outside the peaks the journey is nearer fifty minutes than seventy.
The Boreham interchange as you leave Chelmsford tells you the A12 is under you properly. Ingatestone and the Brentwood junctions come next, then the long descent towards the M25 crossing. Gallows Corner and its flyover is the psychological halfway point and the place drivers most often peel off onto the A127 by mistake. From there, Gants Hill roundabout and then the Redbridge roundabout put you onto the North Circular for the final few miles.
Parking at Hibbert Road is free and on site. Given the distance, it is worth arriving with everything: V5C, both keys, diagnostic printouts, and above all the invoice or parts list from any recent repair. It is. Chelmsford to Stratford on the main line takes around half an hour, then the Overground towards Chingford or the Victoria line via Walthamstow Central gets you to Blackhorse Road. Gallows Corner. The signs for the A127 and Southend are prominent and it is easy to leave the A12 there by accident. Stay on the A12 towards Romford and Ilford.
