Route · Chelmsford to E17
Chelmsford to our Walthamstow E17 workshop is about thirty-two miles and takes fifty to seventy minutes, running south-west on the A12 and then north on the A406 North Circular. For most Chelmsford customers a mobile visit is the better use of the day.
It is a long run but a simple one: the A12 all the way down to the North Circular, then a short section north.
Gallows Corner and the Brentwood stretch are the two places the A12 backs up. Outside the peaks the journey is nearer fifty minutes than seventy.
The Boreham interchange as you leave Chelmsford tells you the A12 is under you properly. Ingatestone and the Brentwood junctions come next, then the long descent towards the M25 crossing. Gallows Corner and its flyover is the psychological halfway point and the place drivers most often peel off onto the A127 by mistake. From there, Gants Hill roundabout and then the Redbridge roundabout put you onto the North Circular for the final few miles.
Parking at Hibbert Road is free and on site. Given the distance, it is worth arriving with everything: V5C, both keys, diagnostic printouts, and above all the invoice or parts list from any recent repair. If your vehicle has been through an insurance repair in Chelmsford, the bodyshop parts list naming a replacement cluster or dashboard is the single most useful document you can hand us.
It is. Chelmsford to Stratford on the main line takes around half an hour, then the Overground towards Chingford or the Victoria line via Walthamstow Central gets you to Blackhorse Road. Several Chelmsford customers drop the vehicle with us and travel back the same day. It only makes sense when the car is staying for bench work.
Most of the time, yes. Thirty-two miles each way is two hours of your day before any work happens. Our mobile service in Chelmsford books a fixed slot and does the identical job at your address. The exception is a cluster with a hardware fault, where bench work at the workshop genuinely produces a better result.
| Option | Your time | When it is the right call |
|---|---|---|
| Drive the A12 | 2 hours plus the job | Cluster hardware fault, you want it same day |
| Train via Stratford | Two return trips | Leaving the vehicle for bench repair |
| Mobile visit in Chelmsford | None – we travel | Almost every plug-in recalibration |
| Bodyshop or dealer site | None | Several vehicles at one address |
Gallows Corner. The signs for the A127 and Southend are prominent and it is easy to leave the A12 there by accident. Stay on the A12 towards Romford and Ilford.
For a straightforward recalibration, let us travel. The mobile visit costs you nothing in time and the job is identical. Drive over when the cluster itself may need bench repair.
Twenty minutes or more in the morning and evening peaks, mostly around Brentwood and Gallows Corner. Mid-morning is the easiest window.
Two minutes on the phone will tell you whether the trip is necessary at all. For most Chelmsford jobs we would rather come to you and save you the morning.
