Route · Romford to E17
Romford to our Hibbert Road workshop in Walthamstow E17 is roughly eleven miles and takes thirty to forty minutes, running west on the A12 and then north on the A406 North Circular. Free parking is available when you arrive.
Two roads do almost all of the work: the A12 westbound and then the A406 North Circular northbound. Getting between them at Redbridge is the only part that needs attention.
The A12 between Gants Hill and Redbridge is the slow section in the morning peak. If you are travelling before nine, allow the full forty minutes.
The Gants Hill roundabout with its underpass is the first confirmation you are on the A12 rather than drifting onto the A118 through Ilford. Redbridge roundabout is unmistakable once you are on it and is where most wrong turns happen – stay in lane for the North Circular northbound rather than following signs into Ilford. Charlie Brown roundabout at Woodford is the two-thirds marker. Waterworks Corner, where the reservoirs and the Walthamstow Wetlands land open up to the west, is your exit.
Free parking on site at Hibbert Road, so there is no need to look for a bay on Blackhorse Lane. Bring the V5C or proof of ownership, both keys where the vehicle has two, and any invoices for cluster, dashboard or ECU work. If the vehicle came from a Romford trade sale, bring whatever the seller gave you as well – it often explains the discrepancy before we plug anything in.
Yes, and it is quicker than the drive at peak times. Take the Elizabeth line from Romford to Stratford, then the Overground towards Chingford or the Victoria line via Walthamstow Central to Blackhorse Road. Alternatively, Romford to Barking and then the Gospel Oak line to Walthamstow Queens Road also works. From Blackhorse Road station Hibbert Road is a few minutes on foot.
For most jobs that is the easier answer. A mobile visit puts a technician at your driveway, workplace or trade premises and does the same read, recalibrate and verify work at the vehicle. See mileage correction in Romford for what a local callout involves. Bring it in only when the cluster itself may need bench repair.
| Option | Round trip time | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Drive the A12 and A406 | 75-90 minutes plus the job | Cluster may need bench work |
| Elizabeth line and Overground | About an hour each way | You can leave the vehicle with us |
| Mobile visit in Romford | None of your day | The vehicle drives and the work is plug-in |
| Trade site, several vehicles | None | Always – one visit covers them all |
Waterworks Corner, signed for Walthamstow and the A503 Forest Road. If you reach the Crooked Billet junction you have gone one too far.
Between Gants Hill and Redbridge it can add fifteen minutes before nine. Mid-morning or early afternoon the whole journey is closer to thirty minutes.
Yes. Eleven miles is far enough that it is worth two minutes on the phone to confirm what your vehicle needs and that we have the right equipment ready.
Give us the registration, make and model and what the dashboard is doing. We will tell you whether to drive over or whether we should come to you instead.
